The bagels are pretty good. I have eaten from the best bagel shops in New York, LA, Montreal, Baltimore and Chicago among others. These bagels are surprisingly good for a small midwest town like Traverse City - much better than Panera, Brew or that small place on 14th street (I forget the name). Bagel sandwiches is general are a rip off compared to just bagel and cream cheese. To me, the bagel is not made for a full sandwich anyway. The only other place in town with good bagels is actually Tom's at West Bay - if they are fresh.

The bagels were okay. Cream cheese is also okay, nothing special. The coffee was pretty tepid. It was not very hot and I could tell by the color while it was being poored that it had about twice as much water as necessary.

I just had a terrible customer service experience at this Big Apple location. Purchased an icespresso and sandwich to go. When I went to leave my hand bumped the high back chair and knocked the whole thing out of my hand. It made a terrible mess. Right away I told the girl behind the counter what had happened and she just turned around and walked away. I didn't know if she heard me or not. After some time standing there she finally came back out with a mop. I felt really bad and apologized for making the mess. She never did acknowledge me in one way or another, not even to ask me if I wanted another coffee drink, so I just left without a drink. My total bill was $11 and some change. It's not every day I spend that much on lunch and even though the spill was my fault I am feeling ripped off.

Poor customer service! Never even got to try the bagels. I placed my order, one bagel with cream cheese and waited...and waited...and waited. They were not even busy and had 5 people working behind the counter. After customers who ordered after me started getting their orders, I walked up to the counter and asked how much longer of a wait I would have. The worker seemed annoyed that I would ask this. She asked the guy fixing the orders and he said my order already went out. Umm no it didn't! They didn't offer to quick get me a bagel, instead I had to request a refund. The manager gave me my money back and never apologized or said anything! I've worked in customer service for 14 years. I know mistakes can happen, but you should offer to fix them! I just wanted one bagel with cream cheese!

The only thing that would make Big Apple Bagels better is if they had Earth Balance (non-dairy) spread or non-dairy cream cheese. Big Apple Bagels has so many bagels to choose from, from your "basics" (Everything, Garlic, Sesame) to the more exotic like Maple, Tomato Basil, Cinnamon Bun, and Strawberry! They also serve muffins, sandwiches, coffee and some fairly great bagged tea. Back to the butter. So when I realized I had such a wide selection of bagels to choose from, and a great selection of tea or coffee, I was disappointed that my only non-dairy topping choice was peanut butter. Don't get me wrong, peanut butter is awesome, but I think it would behoove BAB to provide a non-dairy alternative. Earth Balance spread lasts forever and has non-hydrogenated oils, it's a super healthy alternative to butter or margarine and would even make a great selling point to customers who do have dairy. I understand it's a chain and it's hard to do that sort of thing but I would go to Big Apple Bagels every morning for breakfast (and maybe even lunch) if I knew they had an alternative for me.

We used to go to big apple all the time and the sandwiches were fantastic. We went today and both got the blt bagel meal. The sanwich barely had anything on it. Would of been better off getting a bagel with cream cheese. Paid 18.00 for 2 thin sandwiches a few bagel chips pickle and pop. not ever again

They are coming out with the seasonal coffee flavors. I think I might have died and gone to heaven. It's been eight months since I first reviewed this location of Big Apple Bagels, and I can say proudly and happily that their service and product have not ceased to amaze me. You can find this bagel-eating-girl in there three to four times a week whenever the bank account says it is okay.

If you have never had real bagels then you'll like big apple. Their sandwiches are good, especially in east Lansing, but if you want airy bagels without much substance this is your place. No where outside of metro Detroit knows how to serve up a real bagel, unless you are in the east coast. It's too bad that so many people have no clue what a real bagel is like. Their scallion cream cheese does make up for the rest though.

Im so torn with this review. I absolutely LOVE the food here.. any chance I get we stop here for a quick brunch. Even just a plain bagel with cream cheese satisfies me for hours. However, I have had one pretty awful experience that put a huge damper on my love for this place. I love their smoothies so one morning I decided to go with the usual peach smoothie. When I took a sip it was just awful. The peaches were CLEARLY spoiled, to the point where it gagged me. I kept smelling it thinking maybe im crazy but even the smell was awful. I finally decided I should say something about this rotten fruit... so I told the girl, I think my smoothie may be spoiled. she asked what kind I had and told me the peaches were not even close to their expiration date, so I kindly asked her to smell my smoothie and tell me that it smelled normal. she actually smelled my rotten peach smoothie, looked me straight in the eyes and said... "yup, thats how it always smells" I've had the smoothies, I know that's not normal! I was outraged that not only would she not give me my money back or let alone make me a new one. Having worked in the restaurant business I know that if a customer is not happy you try to fix the problem. Anytime I go there now, I stay away from the smoothies. What a disappointment.

First off...I love me some Big Apple! I have to report however that this location was somewhat limited in it's menu compared to the East Lansing location that i am used to. Everything was good for sure. Duh, it's Big Apple. Sorry Traverse City, but E.L. has ya beat! Still, you have my undying love....

Wow this place has the best bagels in town always so fresh and such a large variety. You can even have one of their amazing bagel sandwiches with a smoothie, coffee or a latte... Mmmmm
